A Healing Hair Mask

hairSummer is an abrasive season for hair. While traveling throughout the summer, I (Litsa) always notice that my hair texture changes as well as my color. It’s nice to find ways to moisturize and protect my hair. At the beach, I use a store bought leave in conditioner to protect my hair from the heat and salt water. Additionally, I use a detangler conditioner to spray into my hair if I’m out walking, working in the yard, and/or playing outside with my daughter. The extra moisture protects my strands.

This summer, I came across this healing hair mask that I’m looking forward to using:

“If you find yourself with broken strands, split ends, or straw-like texture, a store bought or homemade hair mask will help. To DIY: Blend half a banana (1) with two ounces of water, 1/4 cup mayonnaise, and 2 to 3 tablespoons each of coconut oil (2) and honey (3) Leave on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing and shampooing—the nutrients and fatty acids are preparative.”

Personally, I might just try coconut oil with a mix of olive oil. A beauty Bazaar adviser suggested a mix of “half a cup of raw coconout oil with a little jojoba, vitamin E, and olive, macadamia, and carrot oils.” The stylist Mark Townsend says, “if you put it on your hair when you’re at the beach or pool, salt and chlorine can’t penetrate.”

Applying a straight organic virgin coconut oil weekly as a natural hair treatment may also work with helping summer strands stand out in the spotlight!
