Over the last year I have been trying to rid my families diet of high fructose corn syrup. We have gone to healthier, homemade snacks and I am careful on what beverages my children drink. However, high fructose corn syrup is found in many food items that many of us don’t think twice about.

While eating dinner the other night, I happened to reach for the ketchup bottle. Out of curiosity, I started reading the label. Yes, you guessed it, high fructose corn syrup was listed! We go through a lot of ketchup in our household and I am shocked I didn’t pick up on this earlier! Not to mention, the high fructose corn syrup was the second ingredient listed! That means it is one of the main ingredients just behind tomato puree!

High fructose corn syrup may be in these items so read the labels:

Ketchup
Barbecue Sauce
Salad Dressing
Sweet Pickles
Yogurt
Jam & Jelly
Cereal
Canned Soup

Of course there are a ton of other food products that contain High Fructose Corn Syrup! My point is, read food labels and make sure you know what you are eating.

I have switched my family over to organic ketchup from Trader Joes. Yes, it still has sugar but no high fructose corn syrup.
