Kitchen Disaster: Fruit Leather

Fruit Roll up Disaster

Between myself and Ashley, there are a lot of recipes posted here on How to Have it All. What you don’t know is that on occasion I have kitchen disasters! Not all recipes turn out like I planned or taste good. Hubby and my boys are gracious guinea pigs!

This weekend i set out to make fruit rollups using my dehydrator. I am new to dehydrating and I am learning as I go. The recipe said to place the fruit puree on plastic wrap. I don’t like plastic wrap so I always splurge on press ‘n seal wrap. I figured that press ‘n seal was similar to plastic wrap so it should work.

WRONG!

The texture of the press ‘n seal locked in the dried strawberries making it near impossible to peal off the plastic. I was determined not to waste these precious strawberry fruit leathers so I scraped and peeled the best I could.

Strawberry Fruit Roll

Talk about time consuming! I ended up with the plastic container full of strawberry fruit leather. The good news is the boys love the flavor. It is just pure strawberry puree dried- no added sugar!

Next time I will have to buy regular old plastic wrap and give that at try. Or does anyone have another idea for making fruit leather or roll-ups?
