Ripen Tomatoes

As we head into Fall, the cooler temperatures outside will prevent tomatoes from ripening. In fact, if you still have tomatoes on the vine in the garden, you will want to pick them before the frost arrives. Luckily, you can ripen tomatoes right in your windowsill!

We picked some green tomatoes last week as we are still dealing with pesky squirrels. With a lack of acorns this year due to cicada damage to the trees, the squirrels are scavenging our garden for food. We have hardly picked any ripe tomatoes from the garden this year due to this issue.

To ripen green tomatoes, just place them upside down on a windowsill. Another method would be to place them in a paper bag. Of course you could always just make fried green tomatoes!
