Cell phone rice

A couple of weeks ago I told you about dropping my cell phone in the snow. Thankfully I had a backup cell phone to use while I tried to dry out my iPhone. I was very skeptical that placing my iPhone in rice would actually work! But guess what? My iPhone is back in action!

Here is what I did to dry my iPhone:

I first took off the cover and used a blow dryer. I put the blow dryer on a warm setting (not hot) and blew air in the charger plugin area and the headphone plugin. I did this for about two minutes alternating back and forth between the two areas.

Then I took my iPhone and placed it in a bag of rice. I let it sit for a good 10 hours.

With little confidence, I decided to check to see if my phone would turn on. BINGO! It did!

Things I would do differently:

After I dropped my iPhone in the snow, I dried it with my shirt and then immediately turned it on. You should not try to turn your phone on right after it is dropped in liquid. Mine was fine at first but then turned completely off and I could not get it to turn on. If you do drop it in liquid, take measures to dry the phone before turning it on for best results. Since I had already “messed up” by turning it on, I really didn’t think the blow dryer and rice would work. However, since it was just damp with snow I got lucky.
