So Good, So Sweet Story: The Wedding Night & The Cancelled Hotel

Hubby and I were married on April 24, 2004 in my hometown of Atascadero, California. We had a beautiful church wedding with about 150 of our family and friends. Our wedding turned out to be a blast! We had a relaxed atmosphere with tons of dancing. As most weddings go though, we were exhausted by the end of the night. My new hubby and I headed to check into hotel around 11:30 pm.

Now this is where things get interesting! And NO it’s not what you are thinking!

We walk into the hotel lobby to check-in and the girl behind the desk gives us a strange look. Hmmm. Why the weird look? We are still in our wedding clothes so maybe that’s the reason for the odd expression.

Nope.

She proceeds to tell us that our reservation was cancelled and the hotel had no vacancy. WHAT?

I point out our wedding clothes this time and explain in desperation that we need a room ASAP. Could she not see the tiara on my head? It turns out there was an issue with the credit card holding our room- they wrote down the wrong number. And it just so happens that there was a car show going on in our very small town. That meant there was no vacancy at any hotel nearby.

As a new bride I was very upset. I called my mom sobbing as we drove off looking for a place to stay. My mom tells me there is a little motel in town- it’s old and run down but it was something. We came across the motel with a vacancy sign. The sweet guy gave us a great deal on a room since it was so late and obviously it was our wedding night (still in the dress!).

I soooo wish I would have taken pictures of this motel room because it was the funkiest place we have ever stayed! There was nothing we could do but laugh hysterically! With 70’s decor and a shower that drenched the entire bathroom it was quite the site. We were even afraid to sleep under the covers!

But you know what, it couldn’t have been more perfect. We still get a good laugh and we will never forget our wedding night.
