Thrift Store Success

Just two days after my own thrift store finds, the TODAY Show was reporting on the thrift store comeback in these hard economic times! I loved one dad’s perspective. He said, “We CAN afford other prices but why spend more when we can find some items here.”  This perspective is an important one to model/teach to our children as we shop around at thrift stores. You can always live above your budget and income level but living below it as you save money is an integral part of being successful.

The first Saturday of every month a local Goodwill store (35-40 minutes) away has a ½ price sale on ALL items! Thus, a friend who had never been accompanied my daughter and me to the store with her daughter. The girls found toys and books. My friend found NEW and gently used baby clothes for her little one due in May. I found some other great buys too!

Here’s what I bought for $20.49—-

  • I SPY Little Numbers (Board Book)
  • Have you seen My Cat? By Eric Carle (Board Book)
  • Fluffy & Barron by Laura Rankin (Hardback Book)
  • Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother, Too? By Eric Carle (Hardback Book)
  • Banana Republic Clutch in Pink
  • Ralph Lauren shorts (no stains or spots, no wear or tear)
  • Cache Island Dress NEW (STAY TUNED this week; This item will be given away on How to Have It All)
  • Three baby dolls (My daughter loves babies!!)
  • DKNY pink corduroy skirt for my daughter (one size up from what she’s wearing now)
  • a PURPLE rainy day Parka for my daughter (one size up from what she’s wearing now)

Do you enjoy thrift store finds? What is your favorite treasure from your thrift store?
