How Much Screen Time Do Your Kids Get?

As we head into summer, hubby and I are struggling with the screen time usage for our boys. During the school year, our boys are not allowed to play video games during the school week. Since they are busy with sports most evening, they watch little television during the school week too. However, now that school is out, our boys are attached to their iPods!

Hubby and the boys actually play a game together – Clash of Clans. The boys also play Minecraft with their friends. Since hubby is in on the gaming, we have differing opinions on the allowed screen time.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should have no more than two hours of screen time per day. That means no more than two hours of television, computer or video games per day. I can say that we for sure stick to this rule during the school year. Summertime, is a different matter!

My boys are great at playing outside as long as we take their video games away. I do like that video games keep them entertained when they need downtime. So, I want to ask all of you for your input!

How much screen time do you allow your children? How do you keep track of the time? Do your kids have to earn their video game time? I thought earning time might be a good way to go.

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
