How to Calculate Store Savings

As you begin your couponing adventures you will want to calculate how much was saved. I love it when stores actually have the percentage of savings on the receipt! If the percentage of savings is not listed, you can easily calculate it.

Look on your receipt for the total spent and the total saved. These are the important numbers! I always use the total saved number that includes all coupons and shoppers card savings.

Savings Formula:

Total Saved ÷ Total Value = % Savings

Here is an example for you:

Spent: $57.18

Saved: $67.05

Add the total spent and the total saved together to find the total value of your purchase.

$57.18 + $67.05= $124.23

The next step is to divide the total saved by the total value.

$67.05 ÷ $124.23= 0.539

To get a percentage, just multiply the 0.539 by 100. So that’s a 53.9% savings!

I hope this little math lessons helps you on your coupon journey! If you are just starting out with coupons, make sure you look over my How to Coupon series and Save More at the Grocery Store Series.
