Life With Boys: Country Life

We have spent the last few days at my dad’s house in California. Talk about a little boys dreamland! My boys have hardly played with toys since we arrived. Nature and farm life provide enough to keep them busy and happy campers!

It’s been great joy watching my boys take part in the country life. Simple things like playing with a rolly polly bug, picking flowers, sorting rocks and of course sticks have entertained them for hours. It has really made me think about the amount of toys we buy them. I think they get more joy from the outdoors and nature than the toys sitting in their rooms.

Feeding the fish in the afternoon was Mr. B’s highlight. He loved chucking the fish food in the pond and watching the fish bubble to the surface.

Capt. M said his favorite thing was riding the horses. I think he also enjoyed learning how to rope a cow (a fake cow!).

Of course we don’t have horses or a pond back home, but we have plenty of nature to explore. This Spring we will be striving to enjoy the simple things- and let go of some of the toys! Looking at nature through a child’s eyes is delightful.
