Life With Boys: F Word

The other night I was putting six year old Capt. M to bed. He was telling me about his day and his reading accomplishments. He had improved so much with his reading that his teacher had a super star announcement for him on the loud speaker! He was so proud and so was I!

Capt. M then said, “Mom you are not going to be proud of this though.”

A big UH OH ran through my mind. “What honey?”

Capt. M “This boy did the F word at me.”

WHAT? Tell me what happened. Did you tell the teacher?” I said with great concern and worry.

Capt. M then said “He farted.”

Oooooh!” I said with great relief.

Capt. M picked up on the fact that I was relieved and he further questioned me asking “what F word did you think it was mommy?”

Of course, I didn’t go there! I am sooooo thankful that my six year old was spared a little longer from the real F word. One thing that I have learned this last year is to not put words in my son’s mouth. It is much better to let them tell the story because many times they is not referring to things that I am thinking of- thankfully!!! So let the kids do the talking before you jump to conclusions!
