A few weeks ago I told you that we were taking the Listerine Sweet Start Challenge. My boys were required to brush, floss and use Listerine Smart Rinse for three weeks. Although I am a dental hygienist, my boys are just like any other child. The dental care routine can be challenging!

When I pulled out the bottles of Listerine Smart Rinse my boys were so excited! Mr. B picked the berry flavor and Capt. M picked the Barbie bubble gum bottle (yes my 6 year old son picked Barbie!). I also gave them the Reach Access flossers. We placed a check off chart on the fridge and the boys were eager for the challenge to begin.

The rinse made a huge difference in my boys dental care routine. I thought at first it was because it was something new. But as the days passed, they still rinsed with joy. Most of the time I did not have to ask them to rinse, they did it under their own will. And since they needed to brush before rinsing, their brushing also increased!

Yep, that’s Capt. M sporting his spiderman costume suite rinsing with Barbie Smart Rinse! I LOVE this guy and the smiles he brings!

Flossing was a much more difficult task for us. I admit that it is partially my fault! The boys ran out of the Reach Access floss attachments and I didn’t fulfill their request for more (I forgot!). At ages 4 and 6 the boys don’t have the dexterity to use regular floss.

The boys did excel at brushing and rinsing though! Both boys successfully brushed 2 times a day and rinsed with Listerine Smart Rinse for three weeks in a row and counting. We will continue with this routine since I know that the fluoride rinse is beneficial for them in helping to prevent cavities.

If your child hasn’t incorporated a rinse into their routine, I highly recommend Listerine Smart Rinse. Just make sure you child does not swallow the rinse- supervision is highly recommended for young children.
