Six Stroke Symptoms

It’s been less than six months since my husband (Litsa’s) thought he was having a stroke. Thus, when I come across any stroke symptom facts, I like to familiarize myself with the symptoms that I might otherwise bypass if I’m not looking for them.

Recently, I also read that “Every year more women than men suffer a stroke, yet only 27% can name more than two of the six main symptoms.” That doesn’t settle right with me. At forty, I don’t want to be concerned with strokes but it is inevitable that in my lifetime, I will hear of stroke victims (and I have already—my grandfather, my former co-worker, my friend’s grandmother, etc.). Thus, I must continue to review these six stroke signs:

  • Numbness or Weakness on One Side of the Face
  • Numbness or Weakness of the Arms or Legs, on either or both sides
  • Confusion or trouble speaking or understanding others
  • Trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Severe headache with no known cause

Were you able to name these stroke symptoms and/or are there others that you might add to this list?
