Will you sail to faraway lands this summer or just around the corner from your house to your favorite lake? Maybe, the local swimming pool or the pool in your backyard will be your favorite gathering place this summer! Regardless, this easy summertime craft project will help create the ambiance that you and your family want this summer——memories that last a lifetime!

Disney Family Fun Magazine has simple, easy step-by-step directions to create the sailboat above with your recycled 1 liter plastic soda bottle! Follow their directions and begin gathering materials for a fun filled summer day with your children and family! Take a moment to check out their pirate version sailboat too! Super-duper fun! I know my little princess would instantly tell us she was a princess pirate just to make one of those. Journal the dialogue that emerges as you create these Super Sailboats!

Additionally, you can gather sticks from the yard and jump in to making the raft in the June 2012 Parenting Magazine. The scrapbook paper sail makes the raft super cute! Get creative with your stack of scraps.

The directions:

Have your kids gather sticks from they yard and jump into this quick, cute craft. Raft: Cut 12 sticks into 6-inch lengths. Tightly weave two sticks together with a 3 foot piece of string. Weave in third stick. Repeat with seven more. Knot string. Weave the other side of the raft the same way. Cut off excess string. Tie last two sticks under each end of raft with a 10-inch piece of string. Sail: Cut 6-inch triangle from scrapbook paper; fold in half. Glue craft stick to the crease. Glue edges of sail together. Attach mast with string.

Making these crafts on a rainy summer day will create a retreat indoors until you can set sail again into the glorious days of summer!
