Cupcake Red Velvet

Today we are headed to my home state of California for Thirsty Thursday wine tasting! The goal of Thirsty Thursday is to find good and cheap wines for under $10.

2009 Cupcake Vineyards Red Velvet was my wine choice this week and I am so glad I picked it! Out of all of the red wines I have reviewed so far, this is my favorite.

Red Velvet is a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is creamy and smooth with a hint of mocha and chocolate. Interestingly, my wine palate has definitely developed over the last few weeks. Previously I enjoyed wine but I didn’t always get the descriptive words. Red Velvet is right on when they say “blackberry chocolate cupcake with a mocha coulis”.

It may seem odd for wine to have a hint of mocha but I found it very enjoyable. Not overpowering with a nice finish.

Cupcake Red Velvet is around $10 a bottle and well worth it. I even got hubby to drink a glass and he is not really a wine drinker.

As always, make sure you drink responsibly.

Do you have a suggestion for a good and cheap wine under $10? Please leave a comment and let me know!
