Emerald Bay Merlot

The goal of Thirsty Thursday is to find good and cheap wines for under $10. Today we are headed to my home state of California for Thirsty Thursday wine tasting!

The wine isle can be overwhelming- so many brands and varieties to choose from. I am out of suggestions from you all and out of brands that I am familiar with for under $10. So I took a wild guess and grabbed a bottle of Emerald Bay Merlot off the shelf.

After looking up the tasting notes online I noticed this is a slight blend- 89% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes From the Vintner
Bing cherry and dried currant aromas complement soft vanilla nuances on the palate. Soft tannins and a moderate complexity are enhanced by the small blend of Cabernet Sauvignon. Smooth through the finish.

I did find Emerald Bay to be a smooth Merlot. I could taste a hint of cherry and the slight aroma of vanilla. This Merlot was not as spicy and did not have the slight oak aftertaste like the Xplorador I tasted a few weeks ago.

The price for Emearld Bay is around $7 a bottle. It contains 13.5% alcohol so pair it with a hearty meal like pork tenderloin and mushroom risotto.

As always, make sure you drink responsibly.
