Thrifty Seasonal Treasures

There’s so much commercialism frosted throughout the stores this season. As much as I love the season and the festive golds, reds, sparkling lights……and the REASON for such a beautiful gift, I just have to refrain from retail shops (and for my budget’s sake too). I’d rather use the change jingling in my pockets and/or in the bottom of my purse to bring home little treasures. Thus, I find myself drawn to welcoming thrift stores—-those with seasonal treasures that I can give my home (and or close friends and family members that don’t mind a little bit of used merchandise)!?! I love fine living…….and crafty, fun treats……so I know the little treasures I bring home are something someone will love——–and usually that someone is me! Here are a few treasures from my latest thrifty retreat:

  • For $0.50 I brought home this wooden caddie (pictured above) that seeped out a Christmas red and beckoned for me to just love it. I wasn’t sure but I had two quarters and someone else was eyeballing it if I put it down. It now has been polished and sits on my dining room table housing sugar, beverage napkins, and dark chocolates with hints of cranberry. Who’s ready for a coffee/tea outing at my place?
  • glassesFor $1.25, I brought home six drinking glasses. I didn’t have a full set. These were fun. They curved enough to look like craddled telephones. No need to phone an order in for them. They are taking residence with us. We’ve enjoyed them and company has too. My lunch date loved them—-and my dinner date tonight did too. Score!
  • coffee mugsIf you’ve followed me (Litsa) by social media and/or throughout my blogging posts here on How to Have it All, you know that I.love.coffee. Thus, I always need new coffee mugs. Some of mine break or find their way out the door to my husband’s shop. I never have more than two that match. However, this shopping trip allowed me to bring home four cups for $1.00—-coffee score!

I’m not sure what I was looking for specifically when I walked in to this little favorite thrift store in Northern Georgia this past Thanksgiving week but I found what I needed. And when you pretend to be a baker, you always need kitchen tools. I didn’t find any but I found a Kitchenaid Old Model Mixing Bowl for $0.50 too. It came home with me and served as a salad serving bowl tonight for an impromptu dinner with friends. Sometimes the best gifts are those we are not looking for but those that find us when we are content with our circumstances right where we are.

No need to overspend this season. Get out and enjoy yourself. You’ll sure find seasonal treasures—-mine just happen to be thrifty season delights!
