Travel Tip: Preventing Falling Out of Bed Accidents

We have stayed in hotels frequently with the kids in the last few months. Our boys are very active sleepers- they never stay in one spot. Ever since Capt. M fell out of my bed while he was sleeping and hit his on the nightstand, we have been paranoid. He ended up needing 3 staples in the back of his head- what a rude awakening!

Whenever we put the kids to bed in a new place, we take some steps to make sure all obstacles are out of the way. We relocate the nightstand as long as it is not bolted down. We also try to push the bed up against a wall. However, in many hotels the beds will not budge. In that case we take the cushions from the couch and place them alongside the bed.

The couch cushions worked great alongside these twin beds. One was placed along the wall side and it was taller than the bed to act as a rail. The other one was placed on the floor for a soft place to land. If you don’t have a couch in your room, use extra pillows or blankets.
