Workout With Resistance Bands

One way to add strength training to your workouts without purchasing weights is to use resistance bands. Not only are resistance bands easier to transport, they are a lot cheaper! Resistance bands are very versatile and can be used to strengthen muscles throughout the body. They do come on several styles- circular bands, tube bands with handles and therapy resistance bands.

SeriousSteel band

I mostly use the circular style SeriousSteel 5-35# band. I do several arm and back exercises with the band as well as lateral band walks to strengthen leg muscles. Plus you can use the circular band for assisted pullups! Yes, ladies you can do pullups. After a year of training, I am happy to report I can now do 4 pullups in a row unassisted!

Back to the resistance bands…

Resistance Band Pull

One simple exercise you can do is pulling apart the band. This will work your triceps, lats and shoulder blades. Once you pull the band apart as far as you can, start raising it over your head keeping your arms extended.

Resistance Band overhead

Keep your core tight as you move the band above your head and keep pulling the band apart as much as you can.

Resistance Band

Another easy resistance band move is the overhead press. Stand on the band and then raise the band overhead. Again keep your core engaged throughout the exercise.
