Eating From the Stockpile Update

Two weeks ago I announced that we were going to concentrate on eating from the stockpile this month since our budget was tight. We have done fairly well although I have shopped the Kroger Mega Event two times. There were several mega event items that were at my rock bottom price for the stockpile- pasta, canned dog food, dry dog food, cat food and yogurt. I have shopped for more than the goal of just produce, milk and bread but I have stayed well under my usual weekly budget. Last week I spent around $40 out of pocket. This week I spent $60- mostly due to the large amount of pet food I bought.

My other goal was to pack my lunch instead of eating out. Over the last several months I have gotten into the bad habit of eating out 2 or 3 times a week. For the last two weeks I have eaten out one time for a special occasion. I am very pleased with myself since my coworkers invite me to eat out almost every day. It is hard to resist sometimes! I plan to keep packing my lunches as it has made a huge impact on our budget.

For the next few weeks I will be extremely busy which means quick and easy meals. My mom and step-dad will be staying with us for a couple of weeks which we are so excited about! I will need to do some major shopping before they arrive since they only eat organic and health food. For the next week I am keeping the meals simple and from items in my stockpile. When my parents arrive, it will be a different story!

How are you doing with the challenge? Try any new recipes? I would love to hear from you!
