Applesauce, Apple Jelly & Dried Apples

Applesauce

Last weekend my boys and I went to our local apple orchard and picked a bushel of apples. Out of four varieties, we chose Nittany and Golden Delicious for our applesauce making! We tried all four varieties available to pick and decided these were the juiciest and sweetest. Make sure to refer to my apple guide if you are wondering what apple variety to use! This weekend, hubby helped me can 24 pints of applesauce! We still have one more batch of cinnamon applesauce to go.

Apple Peel Jelly

I also made apple peel jelly from the peels and cores. Unfortunately, I didn’t stick to my recipe I posted last year! I decided to try something new and the jelly has not set. It’s more like apple syrup. It tastes really good though! It looks like we have enough apple syrup for a very long time!

Dried Apples

We also tried out our food dehydrator and dried some apple slices. Dried apple will be great for trail mixes and snacks.

Before you get started canning applesauce, make sure you read my post on preparing apples for canning!

What did you do this weekend? Any apple picking or canning?
