It’s the height of back to school shopping and many are questioning which brand of school gear to get. There is one thing for sure, children are rough and tough on their backpacks and lunchboxes! When Capt. M was in Kindergarten we found out the hard way that a cheap backpack would not suffice. I think we went through three backpacks that year. Since then, we have invested in nicer backpacks and lunchboxes. Capt. M used a Lands End lunchbox for two years before it gave out. Mr. B will use his Lands End lunchbox again this year since it is still in great shape after his Kindergarten year.

So what are the best brands for backpacks and lunchboxes?

lands end lunchbox

Litsa conducted an impromptu survey on her personal facebook page the other day and the top three recommendations were L.L.Bean, Lands End and Pottery Barn. When I first hear these brands I often think EXPENSIVE. However, when I searched their websites, I found some pretty good deals. Plus, if you can get a lunchbox to last two years, you have gotten your monies worth! Many of the backpacks are guaranteed to last too. L.L. Bean will replace a backpack if it breaks or wears.

jansportAlthough not mentioned in Litsa’s poll, I have also heard that JanSport is a good choice for a backpack. They also have a lifetime guarantee.

After comparing these four brands, it looks like the least expensive is L.L. Bean. The most expensive is Pottery Barn. I still need to order Capt. M a lunchbox so I think I will give L.L. Bean a try this year! Plus they have free shipping!I would love to read your thoughts on the best brands of backpacks and lunchboxes! Let us know what you have had success with and what has failed!
