Our little chick is now 1 month old! And yes technically it is an ugly chick- not a duckling! However, we have affectionately named it Ugly Duckling because it is so funny looking! This chick is a cross between our Barred Rock Hen (Black & White) and our Partridge Plymouth Rock Rooster (reddish brown).
So this little chick has a brown head and black and white feathers emerging! It is a pretty funny looking bird! But, maybe, just maybe; it will emerge into a beautifully unique chicken! Brown Town (mama hen), is also molting. They make quite a pair right now!
Otherwise, Ugly Duckling is doing very well. It still loves to nestle with mama hen. We have about two more weeks until we let baby chick and mama hen back in with the rest of the flock.
