Are you thinking about Christmas yet?

Yes, I know it is only July! Each Christmas hubby and I make several homemade gifts to give to our family and friends. Most of the time we give home canned goods such as jam, sliced fruit and vegetables. We have also given things like homemade vanilla extract. This year I think we will try homemade mint extract! Since homemade gifts take a lot of planning and time, we start thinking about Christmas gifts in the summer!

The summer months are prime preserving months for most produce. Whatever we have a bumper crop of or whatever I can get on discount, is what we tend to can and give as gifts. Last weekend we came across a huge wild blackberry patch. Hubby, the boys and I forged through the woods to find enough blackberries to make a batch of jam! This will be a special treat as I have never had enough blackberries to make jam.

If you are planning on giving homemade Christmas gifts this year, start thinking about what you will need now. If you are canning, start the process when the produce is in season. If you are crafting, start looking for items on sale. If you have no idea what to make, start stalking pinterest!
