Try Something New: Kumato Tomatoes

thOur try something new this week was a brown tomato called a Kumato!

“Mommy, I’ve never seen a brown tomato before!” stated my 5.5 year old daughter.

“Nor, have I!” proclaimed my friend who came over for lunch.

But both didn’t resist trying one!?! Jessica had hers tossed in a spinach salad with olive oil and vinegar. My daughter (Litsa’s) had hers sliced in pieces to eat raw. “Mmm….I want another one, Mama!” “They are good!” noted Jessica.

Sometimes you try something new because you are curious—which is why I tried them the first time that I located them at Kroger. This time, I brought home the Kumato pack because it was on a “Manager’s Special” for $0.99—six small kumatoes, or brown tomatoes.

Kumato tomatoes are said to be sweeter than a regular tomato due to it’s high fructose content. I can’t say that it is much different than a regular tomato—we eat the vine ripe tomatoes—but it is brown, juicy, firm and above all TASTY!! To read more about the Kumato, go HERE!
