broccolini

It’s getting a little tougher to find Try Something New items in the produce department! I am sure the Fall vegetables will be abundant soon though. Capt. M loves broccoli. I came across broccolini which is a cross between broccoli and Gai Lan which is a Chinese vegetable.

Broccolini has longer stalks than regular broccoli and is more delicate. Broccolini has a flavor that is slightly sweet with a slight asparagus taste. I liked the fact that the broccolini stalks were very tender. You can actually eat the whole stalk- little waste when compared to broccoli.

Broccolini can be eaten raw or slightly steamed. It doesn’t take long to cook up this yummy vegetable! I made a stir fry with leftover pork loin, mushrooms, bell peppers, broccolini and teriyaki sauce. It was a very easy meal and full of flavor and color.

Broccolini is more expensive than regular broccoli. I paid $2.99 for a small bunch.
