chayote squash

This week for Try Something New I picked up a Chayote squash. The skin is pale green and it is an odd looking squash. It is firm like and apple when you slice it.

Chayote Squash Cut

I cut the chayote squash in half there was a soft seed inside. Just pick the seed out and dice up the rest of the squash. I cooked the squash with bell peppers. It takes awhile to cook since it is so firm.

The taste is mild. It is slightly sweet and not too much flavor. I think this is a great squash to introduce to a child due to the mild flavor. It blends well with other vegetables and takes on the flavor of whatever you cook with it.

Has anyone ever tried a chayote squash?
