Try Something New: Pickled Figs

Have you ever heard of pickled figs? We have been enjoying fresh figs thanks to a patient of mine. This week she brought in pickled figs. None of us had ever had a pickled fig so it became our try something new this week.

Pickled figs smell like sweet and sour sauce. In fact they taste like sweet and sour too! They are a little mushy but have a nice flavor. Hubby thought they looked like eyeballs! He chased the boys around asking them to try an eyeball! Of course neither of them would try it. Hubby and I enjoyed the pickled figs though.

If you have never tried them, there is a canning recipe I found for pickled figs. They seem pretty easy to make.

And just so you know, you can pretty much pickle anything- including watermelon rinds! There is a lot of interesting pickled things out there.

Have you tried anything new this week?
