Are You an Over-packer, Under-packer or Just Right?

I am getting ready for a short trip with the my boys. We are headed to Washington DC to visit with my dad! Hubby is staying behind which leaves me to carry all of the baggage. By nature, I am an over-packer. I always pack extra just in case. Even though we are staying just one night, I find myself packing extra of everything.

I keep telling myself to take it easy and it is not helping!

So, just for fun, are you an over-packer like myself or do you pack just enough? Or maybe you throw things in the bag at the last minute and forget half the items you need- that’s my hubby!

  1. Definitely an over-packer! I pack a lot of things “just in case!”
And your comment about your hubby made me laugh – my dad just did his own packing for a recent trip and didn’t pack any toiletries! He doesn’t usually do the packing :)

I think it is the frugal shopper in us (and the fact that we rarely, if ever, just pack for *just* us) that we tend to over-pack…well,that and the fact that we’d rather not have to tote one, two, or a dozen kids with fevers or coughs out at midnight so that others around can get sleep! I do tend to always over-pack, but am learning (sl-ow-ly) that there are a few *must have* “just in case” items and the rest are just added weight! With you headed to civilization, I would say there are very few things that you can’t live without that you wouldn’t have access to. As far as paying full price (gasp!) for something, you are such a frugal shopper all of the other days of the year that it’s ok to pay full price for something that is needed and forgotten and have room for some souvenirs to bring back than to worry yourself sick packing all the extras. Remember your time is worth something too! And as far as my hubby, he has a “go bag” that has all of his travel necessities and throws the rest in a bag and goes (then again, he’s just packing himself)

  3. I travel frequently for work (I just got back from Hong Kong yesterday) and have learned to pack light. I handwash a lot of clothes while traveling. I was surprised to learn how quickly clothes dry if you wring out in a towel before hanging to dry.
