take care of your body

Last week I came across this quote that really resonated with me. It’s simple, yet a good reminder for many of us.

“Take care of your body it’s the only place you have to live.” by Jim Rohn

I have the privilege of training with young adults and teenagers with most of my workouts. I really enjoy working out with the younger crowd since they push me. There are times when I have to monitor myself because I am a very competitive person. Even though I am in the best shape of my life, my muscles are certainly not as springy as a teenager!

Over the years I have learned that I need to eat right, exercise, have rest days and care for aching muscles in order to keep my body functioning well. It’s a big chore caring for your body! What I see with so many people is focusing on one thing. It’s not just one thing that keeps your body going, it’s the fine balance of nutrients, fitness, sleep and mental health.

The younger crowd I train with have not exactly realized this yet (and no I am not picking on them, I was once there!). When we are young we are invincible. We can eat anything, play several hours of sports without stretching or resting and get up the next day to do it over again. That all changes as our bodies age.

My point is, we should learn to care for our bodies from a younger age. It’s so much harder to go back and retrain yourself. Listen to your body now. If it hurts, figure out how to heal whether that be ice and rest or a change in your routine. Ask for help when preforming new exercises. Technique is key to any fitness program. Feed your body the correct nutrients.

Care for your body, it’s the only one you’ve got!
