Daddy Daycare: Daddy Long Legs

Having daddy home with our boys has been such a blessing. The boys are so impressionable at their young ages. It is so fun to watch them emulate daddy. Most of the time you can find Mr. B right underneath daddy’s feet!

I took the picture above this weekend and it reminded me of a short story in a children’s book we read often. The story has a dad with a child attached to his leg. The child places his feet on the dads as he walks and states “Daddy long legs look at me!”

It’s a good reminder that our children are always watching and listening wanting to be just like us. Even when we think they are not listening they are.

As were driving the other day Mr. B blurted out “What in the Hell”. Hubby and I looked at each other and with a smirk on our faces we silently decided not to acknowledge him. Because you know if you draw attention to the situation they end up saying it more! Obviously he heard one of us say that and didn’t realize it was inappropriate. He actually said it in the sweetest little voice that it was so hard not to laugh!

And another lesson learned for the parents this week! With kiddos there is never a dull moment!

Hubby is currently a stay at home dad to our two boys. Capt. M is 5 and in Kindergarten and Mr. B is 3 and loves staying home with daddy all day. Join us as we chronicle our journey adjusting to daddy daycare.

  1. I had to laugh about your story with your kids repeating inappropriate things in the sweetest voices because the same thing happened with us and our then 3 year old Parker. Now I have to confess that I used to watch Laguna Beach/The Hills all the time on MTV (don’t ask me why–I’m way too old to be doing that!) and they say a lot of inappropriate things. Around Halloween, my husband, me and Parker were in the car talking about Halloween and how much fun it’s going to be, etc. All of a sudden this sweet little voice from the car seat in the back says, “Happy Halloween Bitches”. Now I didn’t do what you did but freaked out and said “WHAT?!” as he innocently looks at me smiling. Needless to say, I learned my lesson and DVR’d the show from then on (hey, I still had to find out what was going on with Lauren, Heidi and Spencer!!).

    • Hi Shari,
Thanks so much for sharing your cute story! It made me smile! I am sure I would have freaked out if my son said what your son did. Not that “Hell” isn’t a bad word but it could have been worse! Have a great weekend!
