Daddy Daycare: Preparing for Summer

Schools out for Capt. M! Yep, he is no longer a kindergartener! We are so proud that he scored straight S’s on his report card. We are now coming up with a plan to keep both boys entertained and educated over the summer. This will be the first summer that hubby is home with the boys.

Here is what I have come up with so far for summer activities:

  • Vacation Bible School at a local church. Check with churches in your area. VBS is usually really inexpensive and a lot of fun for kids!
  • Swim lessons. We have a lake nearby that hubby can take the boys to for free entertainment. First up is learning how to swim though. We both feel that water can be dangerous and with our brave boys we are taking no chances!
  • Registered for free bowling through AMF. Bowling will be a great activity on days that are just too hot to be outdoors.
  • Summer reading programs. I plan to work on a long list of summer reading programs this weekend. Check with your local library as a good start.
  • Backyard fun. We are blessed to have property that the boys can roam and create adventures on. I am sure that a lot of summer vacation will take place right in our own backyard!
  • Summer Movie Programs. Certain theaters offer $0.50 or $1 children’s movies during the week. I will have a list up soon!

That’s our list so far and I am sure the summer will be over before we know it! Have you started planning your children’s summer yet?

Hubby is currently a stay at home dad to our two boys. Capt. M is 5 and in Kindergarten and Mr. B is 3 and loves staying home with daddy all day. Join us as we chronicle our journey adjusting to daddy daycare.
