Fundraiser Overload

Fundraiser

Do you ever feel like you are getting bombarded with fundraisers? Lately, we have had fundraiser after fundraiser being thrown at us from the school and sporting events. I am not saying I don’t like to donate to these causes. However, when it is week after week, it gets a little old. We have two children and I feel overwhelmed with the fundraisers they are asked to do. I can’t imagine how the parents of larger families feel!

I know schools, sports and organizations need extra funds. And we do the best we can in supporting them. I guess my rant comes from the soccer fundraiser pushing me over the edge! We paid $80 per child to have our sons play soccer this season. Then this weekend we were asked to sell discount cards for a fundraiser. Since I already feel that we paid enough to support the soccer season ($160!), I felt a bit bitter about yet another fundraiser. I guess my issue is that we were basically told that each family needs to sell two cards per child playing and if we didn’t sell them to buy it ourselves. That means another $40! This comes after several weeks of receiving other fundraiser information from the schools.

With a limited budget, we will not be participating in anymore fundraisers for awhile. I will do my best in supporting the schools with Box Tops and supplies donations. However, the piggy bank is officially empty for now!

Do you ever feel like you are overloaded with fundraisers? Do you participate in all of them? I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I was just thinking this today! I just had to race to the school to drop off my son’s order form to turn in for a fundraiser – for one order of two items…that my mom ordered. I just gave up ordering from them unless I know it’s something that a. I can use or give as a gift AND b. I can’t find anywhere else.

Most of the stuff in the particular fundraiser his school uses, I can find for at least half the price at our local Wal-Mart. To me, it’s just not worth it, on a limited budget, to shell out money for something I could get elsewhere. From now on, I will not feel bad about my son’s not participating in a fundraiser. Until the day when the school allows PTO (don’t get me started…) and the parents have a say in which fundraisers to do, the length of time for orders, and WHEN to do them, they probably won’t get any of our money. LOL! :P

All of that would change, of course, if we were to hit the lottery and suddenly be debt free and able to pay cash for a new house. Only then may I actually have some unbudgeted pocket change available to shell out for it.

    • Hi Amy,
I am soooo glad that I am not the only mom that feels this way! Yes, I agree the items are WAY overpriced. And when I got to work today a coworker had brought in a fundraiser for another extra curricular thing! It just never ends! Of course, I am learning to just say no and not feel obligated to purchase. Have a good night!
