Life With Boys: Eye Glasses Debacle

Soooo, last Friday I picked up my first pair of eye glasses. Yep, my eyes are getting old and I now need glasses for driving- especially at night. I don’t have to wear my glasses all of the time and that is a good thing according to Capt. M!

When I walked in the door with my new glasses on, Capt. M burst into tears. I am not joking!

“Mommy, take them off! I don’t want you to wear glasses!” as big crocodile tears rolled down Capt. M’s face.

I have no idea what prompted such a strong response from Capt. M. I tried to explain to him that I didn’t need to wear them all of the time but when I do wear them, it is important. I explained that it was not my choice, but something I needed to help me see, especially while driving.

Over the last few days I have worn my glasses on and off. Capt. M won’t look me in the eye when I wear them but the tears have stopped.

Does he not recognize me? Does he just loath glasses? I have no clue! Has anyone else had a similar response from their child? Maybe he just doesn’t like change!

  1. I like you look darling. Of course only a mother would think their daughter is darling with glasses.
