Recycled magazine Frame

Three new magazines arrived in my mailbox earlier this week! Today two new magazines!! And somewhere in between these days more magazines and catalogs!! You’d think my house is overflowing with them but I love to read them quickly—thumb through them, skim them, & really, really read others. I have a magazine with me most of the time that you find me sitting! I can’t say that my house is overflowing with them because I organize those that I want to keep in a magazine basket in the hallway. The latest arrivals are on my kitchen table to place on my night stand and/or truck for reading pleasure. The rest, I use in these capacities:

  • Use magazines for projects around the house with children. They love pictures and words. let them find their spelling words in magazines. Practice sight words and/or categorizing with magazines. Sophia & I are using various cutouts in her literary and math journals.
  • Pass magazines to friends, family members, salons—–and anyone who reads them! For three years, we have passed many, many magazines to a former preschool teacher of Sophia’s. She always says thank you and is pleased to receive them. When school started back this year and we gave her a stack, she said “Keep them coming!”
  • Place them in the recycle bin. We recycle magazines and catalogs that have been cut into for projects.
  • Put them in the mission/thrift store donation bag. We use our donated items receipt to tax deduct the donated amount from our personal business. Every dollar counts.

This week, we’ll also recycle one magazine by giving it to a cashier at Kroger. Her granddaughter needs some encouragement in weight loss so an ounce of Prevention counts—giving what you have matters: a listening ear or an encouraging magazine!

I must say though that I was surprised when I typed in “recycled magazines” to Bing for an image—a visual for this post. The ART that can be brought to life through recycled magazines is amazing! Take a look around at what all you can do with your magazines after you read them!
