Xplorador Merlot

Over the last few weeks we have been exploring good, cheap wines for $10 or less with Thirsty Thursday. I hope you have all found some new favorites- or at least tried something new!

This week I tried the Concha y Toro Xplorador Merlot 2009. This is a Chilean wine from the Central Valley priced around $7.99. As you all know Merlot is my favorite wine! I found Xplorador soft and easy to drink. I was actually surprised at how smooth Xplorador is. It has hints of black cherry  and chassis flavor with a spicy aftertaste. I could taste a slight oak flavor on the finish.

Merlot pairs well with most meals such as pasta or beef and even with appetizers. In fact it even tastes good as a stand alone wine as I am drinking it now way past dinner! I just love the warmness of a good red wine.

As always, make sure you drink responsibly.

Do you have a suggestion for a good and cheap wine under $10? Please leave a comment and let me know!
