Try Something New: Canary Melon

We went back to the melons for our try something new this week! I was at a local orchard and they had a nice selection of canary melons. The bright yellow color caught my attention. The sign said the canary melon tastes like a cross between a honeydew and a cantaloupe. We are all for a sweet melon!

I was caught off guard by the light green flesh when I cut the melon open! Due to the bright yellow exterior, I was expecting an yellow or orange flesh! The melon was firm, yet juicy. The outside skin is pretty thick and I had to cut a good portion of the rind off.

After I removed the seeds I could see a slight tinge of orange to the flesh. I thought the melon tasted just as the grower stated- a sweet cross between a cantaloupe and honeydew melon. It was not as strong tasting as a cantaloupe though.

Have you tried anything new thins week?
