We are well familiar with oranges and tangerines—maybe even grapefruits that are flooding the supermarket shelves! Pomelos are a wonderful citrus fruits too but the unusual citrus fruits might be the highlight of your table this year! Cooking Light spotlighted them last year as ‘WORTH the HUNT’ so if you are looking to try something new, don’t miss this list:

Variegated Clamondin: Like a cross between a mandarin orange and a kumquat–sour and juicy, an excellent substitute for lemon. The Southeast Asian fruit tastes like mild Meyer lemons, with a similar orange undertone.

Finger Lime: These thin little Australian limes pack big flavor in an unusual way: They’re filled with tiny sacs of lightly herbal, lemony-lime juice that burst in your mouth. Think of them as lime caviar.

Sudachi: This small, lime-like Japanese fruit is prized for its acidic juice. Its flavor is much zestier than that of lemons or limes.

Yuzu: Widely cultivated in Japan, yuzu has a distinct flavor like a complex blend of grapefruit, lemon, and a very sour mandarin orange. It’s an intense, floral citrus: A little goes a long way.

Kaffir Lime: While it looks like a regular lime with bumpy skin, it boasts much more potent, tangy flavor with a bit of an herby kick, and the zest is amazingly fragrant in foods or even cocktails.

If you find one or more, share it with a friend and/or family member! They might enjoy trying a new citrus fruit this season too!
