Try Something New: Jicama

Jicama

I am on a mission to get my boys to try something new in the produce department each week. This week I picked up jicama. I have had jicama before but it had been years.

Jicama is a root vegetable that is crisp and sweet. It reminds me of very crisp apple crossed with pear flavor- although it is not a strong flavor at all. We tried jicama raw. Capt. M liked it and thought it tasted like an apple. Mr. B is in the “I don’t like anything stage” and barely tried it.

Cut Jicama

To eat jicama, just peel off the outer brown peel and slices. It is great on a vegetable platter or added to a salad.

Have you tried anything new this week?

  1. Super good in guacamole too. I made some last week and diced up jicama, serrano pepper, red bell pepper, added black beans, petite sweet corn, green onions, and salt and pepper to taste….AMAZING! I was trying to copy California Pizza Kitchens white corn guac.
