Fish is an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. It is lean and important for brain development. I am trying to add more fish into our diet. Over the past month we have eaten fish at least once a week. Mr. B has become such a fan of fish that he now requests it over chicken! The key is to introduce a mild white fish to your kids.

What type of fish is mild?

If you are looking for a mild flavored white fish try tilapia, cod, sole, flounder, mahi mahi, halibut, orange roughy or haddock. Remember when you are purchasing fish, if it smells “fishy” it is not fresh or going bad. Fresh fish should not have that fishy smell.

How do you prepare fish?

The nice thing about fish is that it cooks quickly. My boys like it best when I just dip the fish fillet in Italian bread crumbs and bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. They eat it right up! We also enjoy fish tacos and grilling fish. If you like your fish blackened, try this oven blackened tilapia recipe.

Don’t be afraid of fish! Skip the boxed fish sticks and make your own breaded fish easily with bread crumbs or a battered fish.
