Winding Road

Life is all about perspective.

We have been through a lot in the last three weeks. I told you all about the water damage that our home endured from a broken water pipe. That was just the beginning of a series of bad events. Capt. M has had stitches in his forehead, my Pfaltzgraff dishes fell from their plate rack on the way to rushing Capt. M to the ER, our big screen HDTV broke (result of water damage? Who knows!), our coffee maker broke and a deer ran into the side of my car last Friday. This all happened as the house is in shambles from the water damage.

But I am blessed and so thankful.

After the deer incident last Friday I had a breakdown. I pulled over into a parking lot and sobbed. I remember thinking okay God, I am done. This is enough. I can’t do this.

There have been fleeting moments over the last two weeks that I have been overwhelmed. You know when the air feels thick and and your chest is heavy when you take a breath? Yes, overwhelmed. Thankfully these moments are quickly followed by clarity.

This is where perspective comes in.

Yes, the events have been stressful. Money seems to be flying out of our wallets faster than we can put it in at the moment! But you know what? Everything that has happened is fixable. I am reminded daily of how blessed I truly am. I hear and read daily about people dealing with death, with severe illness, with job loss, with family issues I can’t even bare to think about, homes lost beyond repair and so much more. It is in these moments that I am reminded that it could always be worse.

I am thankful to have my Faith and knowledge that He will only give me what I can handle. And sometimes it feels like it’s too much, but in the end I am a stronger women.

I felt compelled to write this post to encourage you all. I know that some of you are going through tough times. Remember to put the the troubled things into perspective. Life can’t always be happy, but embrace the good times when you have them. Please feel free to send me an email so I can add you to my prayer list.

Take a deep breath and keep on going. You will get through this, you can do this and you will be okay! You never know where that winding road of life will lead you.

  3. love it! stay strong! I had a similar in-house flood happen in August and then problems with contractors. IF it hadn’t been for my Faith, I don’t think I could done it all. I am so thankful I have HIM help me everyday.

    • Hi Denise,
So sorry to hear that you went through the same thing with water damage. It is an overwhelming experience! We are so blessed that hubby is handy and able to do many of our repair work. And we are so thankful that we have God in our lives- otherwise it would be much harder to get through this. Have a blessed weekend!

      • Renae,

Thank you for your kind words. Our homeowner’s insurance covered all but the deductible of more than $12k in damages. We didn’t want to file the claim, but we weren’t in a position to fix it all ourselves.

I have learned to give it to God when all else fails. His strength can get us through the worse–but there’s no shame in tears, too. We need that physical release.

        Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Well said! There have been certain events happening in our family as well, but I’m glad God is there to take care of us.
