Kroger 5/8

I ended up making a run to Kroger on Sunday even though it was Mother’s Day. I actually love grocery shopping by myself- so it was really nice to get away for a couple of hours! I was a little surprised that my local store had several Mega Event items out of stock. I had to change my plan several times since they were out of Reach Toothbrushes, Scotch-Brite Greener Clean Sponges and Clif Bars.

Mega Event Items:

(3) Reach Toothbrush or Access Flosser, $0.50
$3/3 Select Listerine or Reach Items, exp. 12-31-11 (SS 01/09/11 #2)
Better than FREE after coupon and instant savings!

(4) Dannon Yogurt (4-6 ct.) or 32 oz.), $1.49

(2) Mom’s Best Cereal (12 oz.), $0.99

(1) Dole Salad Blends (5-12 oz.), $1.99

(3) Capri-Sun or Kool-Aid Jammers, $1.49

(2) Boulder Canyon Chips, $0.99
$1/2 Boulder Canyon Chips printable
$0.49 ea. wyb 2 after coupon!

As you can see, I purchased 31 Mega Event items. The interesting thing is I still received the $0.50 discount for the last item. This has never happened before- usually you get charged the full price if you don’t purchase in groups of 10. I did notice that the receipt is displaying the discount differently this Mega Event. The discount is directly under the participating item instead of at the bottom of the receipt.

I also purchased a lot of produce, 2 loaves of bread, 2 gallons of milk, coffee creamer, peanut butter, Snapple and a few other snacks for hubby’s upcoming trip. The Snapple was another goof-up on this order. Apparently I head a $0.50 off eCoupon loaded that I forgot about. The cashier wouldn’t accept my $1 off paper coupon since the eCoupon came off. I went to customer service and asked if I could return the Snapple and then purchase it using the $1 coupon. She was very nice and ended up just giving me a dollar bill!

My Totals:

Paid: $56.67

Saved: $111.31 or 66%

Have you been shopping this week? How did you do? Plus if you did shop the Mega Event, I would love to hear if you had the same experience as me regarding the number of items purchased and the discount.

  1. I’m kind of new to couponing but I think I did really well this week. My total before coupons/card savings was $243.47. With coupons, Mega event savings and Kroger card, I saved $95.56, bringing my out of pocket down to $147.91….saving almost 40%. My Kroger always gives the Mega Event savings on all products as long as you buy at least 10; doesn’t have to be mulitples of 10.

    • Hi Mary!
Good job on your shopping trip! I bet it felt great to save almost $100!

This is the first Mega Event that my Kroger has allowed the discount without the purchase of multiples of 10. Previously, if I bought 29 products I would only get $10 off. I have made that mistake before and had to go to customer service to purchase one more item. I am glad that it is changed though- makes it so much easier!

      • Am going back to Kroger this afternoon. I’ve let friends/family know that I’m “couponing” and just recieved 6 coupons for $1.50 off 3 boxes of Kellogs cereal, which are on sale for $1.98 each. I also have a $25 coupon for switching a prescrition to Kroger. I will get 18 boxes of cereal for $1.64! Plenty to share with the food pantry!

  2. I accidentally forgot that the three boxes of Nutri-grain bars I purchased were Mega Sale items. So, I had 43 instead of 40. They only gave me .50 off 40 times and the ones without the discount were NOT at the bottom of the receipt. I had to look really hard to find the ones that did not have -.50 below the sale price.

It’s my guess that they don’t have this pricing for one store and not another. Even so, I think people better not assume that’s the case if they are not shopping your store.

    • Thanks for the input Barb! I have heard from a few people that had the same experience as me. But, I am sure this is not across the board at all Kroger and Kroger affiliated stores. It will be interesting to see how this works at the next Mega Event!

  3. You had a great week at Kroger! We went this last week too and I was impressed at 47% since I went with my husband and 6 year old! However, we stuck to the list and it went well! :) Have a great week!
